How it all started - 1974
Bistre Farm Shop has been established for 45 years. The shop was started by Dennis Jones and his wife Ena during the mid 1970's. At the time the farm produced eggs and potatoes for which it had regular customers - some home produced lamb was offered for sale to some of the regular customers and that's how it all started.

1974 to 1980
Following the initial sale of lamb the customers came back wanting more, so following consultation with the local planning authority and environmental health, permission was granted for a shop on the farm. By 1980 the business had grown and the farm was unable to produce all that was required for the shop, so meat was purchased from local markets and directly from some local farmers. At this time also, the two sons were returning home after studying at college, Nicholas had studied agriculture and Philip had been training as a butcher - the business was expanded opening a second shop in the town of Buckley.
1993 to present
The day to day running of the shop is the responsibility of Philip and he is ably assisted by the shop staff and assistant manager Gavin, whilst Nicholas works behind the scenes and is responsible for the administration side of the business this partnership works well allowing Philip to concentrate on the sourcing of quality meat from many suppliers on both a local and national level. Mother Ena is a Company Director and still has an active interest in the business.
The friendly and knowledgeable staff are only too happy to offer advice on which cuts of meat are suitable for different types of recipes and to prepare meat to the customers requirements. It is however appreciated that some customers are quite happy to serve themselves from the large selection of pre-packed of meat - knowing that it is of the same quality as that in the serve - over counters and has been packed on the premises. The items for sale in the pre-packed section are all packed on the premises and prepared to the same high standards as all other meat sold in the shop. The pre-packed selection offers the customer a great variation of products often with special promotional deals on multi-pack purchases and allowing them to mix and match packs for variation.
1980 - 1993
During the 1980's the business continued to expand and gained an excellent name for quality and service. In 1993 Bistre Farm Shop relocated from the farm and premises in Buckley to a much larger shop at its current location in the town centre shopping precinct. Bistre Farm Shop now employs over 15 staff.
The business aims to provide quality products at competitive prices along with friendly and polite service and is probably one of the busiest retail butchers in North Wales.
